Libertarian Candidate Nico Tsatsoulis Calls for Inclusion
in Cook County Assessor Candidate Debate,
Citing Strong Prior Voter Support
Chicago, IL — February 11, 2026
Libertarian candidate Nico Tsatsoulis today called
for his inclusion in the upcoming Cook County
Assessor Candidate Debate hosted by the
Real Estate Investment Association (REIA)
on Thursday, February 19, at Maggiano’s Banquets.
Tsatsoulis argues that excluding qualified
candidates undermines open democratic discourse
and denies voters a full range of choices.
Tsatsoulis previously ran for Cook County
Assessor in 2022, earning more than
228,000 votes, or nearly 18% of all
ballots cast, despite limited media exposure
and the county’s overwhelming Democratic registration.
His showing represented one of the strongest
Libertarian performances in a Cook County-wide
race in recent years.
“Cook County voters made it clear in 2022
that they want real choices and real debate
on property tax policy. Renaming debates
to exclude candidates from other parties
reinforces the mistaken belief that voters
only have one political option.”
— Nico Tsatsoulis
Tsatsoulis’s campaign advocates for greater
transparency and fairness in property tax assessments.
He calls for reforms that more closely reflect
market values and reduce unpredictable tax
burdens on homeowners and businesses.
Nearly a quarter of a million Cook County
residents chose an alternative to the
established political parties in the last election.
Tsatsoulis argues that this level of voter
support warrants inclusion rather than exclusion.
Supporters Plan to Attend
A group of supporters plans to gather outside
the event beginning at 7:00 AM,
ahead of the 7:30 AM breakfast for attendees.
Their presence is intended to draw attention
to candidate exclusion and the importance
of open debates that reflect the full range
of electoral choices available to
Cook County voters.
